Once upon a time, I ...Re: the book you're reading. Once upon a time, I ran across a book called (I think), The New York That Never Was. (I can't find it on Amazon, so maybe a different title.)<BR/><BR/>Anyway, it was a fascinating book about proposed projects for the city that were all shot down for one reason or another. (Mostly it's good they never happened.) There were numerous plans that would have taken up all or parts of Central Park, (a football stadium, an airport), the Mid-Town Expressway (that would have been a 6 lane highway in a ditch bisecting lower Manhattan and removing Washington Square Park).
